In my discussion with Rajesh Srivastava today on day 1 of SMX Advanced he mentioned there will be a plugin released (no mention of how soon) for IIS that will interface directly with Bing’s Webmaster Center. The plugin will allow IIS webmasters to submit sitemaps to Bing from within their systems and utilize other webmaster center tools.
UPDATE: It has been 9 hours since I posted this article at an ungodly hour and apparently the IIS plugin has just been released. It is called the IIS SEO Toolkit and it is now in Beta and was officially announced today.
UPDATE 2 3: I am at a seminar where a Microsoft engineer just described the ISS SEO Toolkit and mentioned some welcoming news – the toolkit is a client that DOES NOT require IIS. As a result, I take back my derision over the lack of a tool for Apache 🙂 Sigh. I am getting tired of semantics getting in the way of real answers. It seems what the programmer meant was that the client does require IIS but not necessarily on your own machine – it just won’t work unless you can connect with an IIS server. Links to more information on the toolkit: https://www.iis.net/downloads/microsoft/search-engine-optimization-toolkit
What will not surprise many, but still prompted me to roll my eyes, is that Microsoft has no plans on making a plug-in for Apache anytime soon.
What is IIS?
Internet Information Services (IIS) – formerly called Internet Information Server – is a set of Internet-based services for servers created by Microsoft for use with Microsoft Windows. It is the world’s second most popular web server in terms of overall websites behind the industry leader Apache HTTP Server.
